Story Partner Agreement
Version DRAFT-2026-09-27
This agreement is between you and [Archivis legal entity name] ("Archivis", "we", "us"). It covers your participation in the Archivis Story Partner program. By checking the box on the sign-up page, you agree to it. It works alongside the Archivis Terms of Service, which also apply to your use of Archivis.
1. You are an independent contractor
- You are an independent contractor, not an employee, agent, partner or joint venturer of Archivis. Nothing in this agreement creates an employment relationship.
- You decide when, where and how you work. There are no required hours, quotas or minimums.
- You are not eligible for employee benefits, and Archivis does not withhold taxes from your payments. You are responsible for your own taxes. Archivis, through its payment partner Stripe, will issue tax forms (such as Form 1099) where the law requires.
- You pay your own expenses, including any costs of promoting your referral link.
- You cannot sign contracts, make promises or incur obligations on behalf of Archivis.
2. Eligibility
To take part you must be at least 18 years old, live in the United States, and have an Archivis account. To be paid, you must complete payout setup with Stripe, including identity verification, and keep that account in good standing. You may hold only one Story Partner account.
3. What you do
You introduce people to Archivis using your personal referral link, and you may encourage and help them to complete and publish their biographies.
When you do this, you agree to:
- Be honest. Describe Archivis, its features and its prices accurately. Don't promise anything Archivis doesn't offer.
- Disclose that you're paid. Clearly tell the people you refer, and the audience of anything you post, that you earn a commission when they publish through your link, as the FTC's endorsement rules require.
- Not present yourself as Archivis staff. You may say you're an independent Archivis Story Partner.
- Not spam. Follow anti-spam and telemarketing laws, including CAN-SPAM and the TCPA. Don't send unsolicited bulk email, texts or automated calls, and don't buy or scrape contact lists.
- Respect people's stories and privacy. The people you help may share personal and family information with you. Keep it confidential, use it only to help them with their biography, and never sell or share it.
- Not use anyone's account. Don't ask for or use a customer's password or log in as them. Help them while they use their own account.
- Not bid on our name. Don't buy search or social ads on "Archivis" or similar terms, or register domain names or social accounts that include our name.
4. How referrals are credited
- When someone visits Archivis through your link, they are credited to you for 90 days. If they create an Archivis account in that time, that account stays credited to you.
- A biography is credited when its author starts paying the publishing fee: to the partner whose link they most recently followed within the last 90 days, or, if none, to the partner their account was credited to when it was created. Once credited, a biography stays credited.
- Our records of referrals, payments and publications are the basis for commissions.
5. Commissions
You earn a commission of $160 when a biography credited to you is published, after its author has paid the $200 publishing fee. No commission is earned on:
- biographies published without a paid publishing fee (for example, through an institutional subscription);
- your own biographies, or biographies published from an account you control;
- recruiting other Story Partners (commissions are paid only on published biographies);
- referrals involving fraud, stolen payment methods, or a breach of this agreement.
Each biography earns at most one commission, even if it is unpublished and published again.
6. Holds and payment
- Each commission is held after the biography is published: for 60 days, or 30 days once 3 of your commissions have cleared. It clears when the hold ends and the customer's 7-day refund window has passed.
- Cleared commissions are paid weekly, by transfer to your Stripe account, and from there to your bank according to your Stripe payout settings. There is no minimum payout.
- Your Stripe account is also governed by Stripe's terms, including the Stripe Connected Account Agreement.
- Commissions that clear before you've finished payout setup are held until you finish it.
7. Refunds, disputes and clawbacks
- If a customer is refunded within 7 days of paying the publishing fee, the commission on that biography is canceled.
- If a customer disputes the payment with their card issuer (a chargeback), the commission on that biography is canceled.
- If a commission is canceled after it has been paid to you, the amount is deducted from your future payouts until it is recovered.
- If 2 or more of the customers credited to you file card disputes, your account is automatically paused while we review it. While paused, you keep earning, but no commissions clear or are paid until the review ends.
8. Using the Archivis name
While you are a Story Partner, you may use the Archivis name to describe the service and your referral link, in line with this agreement. You may not modify our logo or suggest that Archivis endorses you beyond this program. This permission ends when your participation ends.
9. Changes
We may change this agreement or the commission terms by giving you at least [30] days' notice by email. Changes do not affect commissions already earned. If you don't agree to a change, you can leave the program before it takes effect.
10. Ending your participation
- You may leave the program at any time by emailing support@archivis.org. We may end your participation at any time, with notice.
- When it ends, your referral link stops crediting new referrals. Biographies already credited to you still earn their commission when published, and commissions still clear and are paid on the normal schedule, unless your participation ended because of fraud or a serious breach of this agreement. In that case, unpaid commissions are forfeited and paid commissions tied to the fraud or breach may be recovered.
11. No guarantee of earnings
Your earnings depend on the biographies you refer being paid for and published. Archivis does not guarantee any level of income. Archivis may change or discontinue its products, pricing or this program, subject to section 9.
12. Liability
To the extent the law allows, Archivis is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from this program, and our total liability to you under this agreement is limited to the commissions owed to you. You are responsible for how you promote Archivis, and you agree to cover losses Archivis suffers because you broke this agreement or the law while doing so. [Counsel to review this section.]
13. General
- This agreement is governed by the laws of [State].
- This agreement, together with the Terms of Service, is the entire agreement about the Story Partner program.
- We may send notices to the email address on your Archivis account.
- If any part of this agreement is unenforceable, the rest still applies.
